What is today the Homer S. Brown Division of the ACBA was founded 50 years ago to assist local African American law students in navigating issues they faced as minorities in law school. Originally known as Black Lawyers of Western Pennsylvania, it changed its name to the Homer S. Brown Law Association in honor of Allegheny County’s first black Common Pleas Court Judge. In 2011, it became the Homer S. Brown Division of the ACBA.
