The Susan Yohe Pittsburgh Legal Diversity & Inclusion Coalition (PLDIC) Scholarship
The Pittsburgh Legal Diversity and Inclusion Coalition (PLDIC) created the Susan Yohe PLDIC Scholarship in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University to honor Susan Yohe’s lifetime of service to championing and furthering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Pittsburgh legal community. Susan is one of the founders of the PLDIC and led the organization as Executive Director from its inception through July 2021. Under her leadership, the Pittsburgh legal community has been educated on and unified to fulfill the PLDIC’s mission to increase the hiring, retention, and inclusion of legal professionals from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Throughout her legal career, Susan has been dedicated to the advancement of new lawyers, particularly law students from historically underrepresented backgrounds. The Susan Yohe PLDIC Scholarship serves to honor Susan’s commitment to these causes by supporting future generations of Pittsburgh law students.
Criteria for Selection
Recipients of the Susan Yohe PLDIC Scholarship must demonstrate a commitment to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession. Preference shall be given to individuals who demonstrate financial need.
Each year, there will be two Susan Yohe PLDIC Scholars: one student from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and one student from the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University.
Scholarship Amount
Each Susan Yohe PLDIC Scholar will receive a $10,000 tuition annual scholarship. $5,000 will be provided annually by PLDIC to each law school to support the scholar. For the first six years, PLDIC member Duquesne Light Company will fund the scholarship on behalf of the PLDIC. To fully support the Susan Yohe PLDIC Scholars, each law school has committed to provide an additional $5,000 for each scholar in their first year and has committed to support the scholar at the same or a greater level in their second and third years of law school so long as the scholar remains eligible for scholarship support according to the rules at each respective law school.
Additional Benefits
In addition to the scholarship, the Susan Yohe PLDIC Scholars will be invited to meet with the PLDIC Board of Directors, the PLDIC Executive Director, the Deans of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University, and leadership from Duquesne Light Company. The Susan Yohe PLDIC Scholars will also be introduced to the PLDIC members through the PLDIC newsletter, social media, and at the PLDIC Annual Members Meeting. Additionally, as more law students are named Susan Yohe PLDIC Scholars, the PLDIC will develop an alumni network for the recipients
